LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED, INDEPENDENT STORE-FRONT TO OPEN ON PEARL STREET

February 23, 2011 - Local business man, Mike Murphy, will soon open the doors at 1142 Pearl Street, as an independent storefront for Steve Madden Shoes. The building, owned by Tebo Development Company, was a previous host to Banana Republic and Umba Imports. Ashley Overton, Broker Associate of Keys Commercial, was the leading agent bringing Murphy and his company to the Pearl Street Mall.

The opening of the store will be a milestone for the owner who started his career by working in a shoe store and who lives in Colorado. Hard work and determination has led Murphy to opening this location as his fourth site to be found within Colorado. This store-front will serve as Murphy’s operating base, as he plans to personally interact, hands-on, with clients and employees. Soon, local customers and seasonal tourists will be able to get exceptional personal service, hand-picked exclusive merchandise, and find that hard-to-find dress shoe, right in the heart of Downtown Boulder.

The 2,500 square foot store is anticipating opening at the end of March, just in time for spring fashion. Love boots even in summer? This independent storefront is unique as it plans on selling special boot merchandise year-round to accommodate true Boulder fashion! The store even plans on carrying a bountiful selection of men’s and women’s fashion shoes. “College students have told me there is a lack of retail stores in the Boulder market to find dress shoes, and I feel that there is a void” said Murphy, who employs CU students at the Flatirons Mall. “I’m listening to what they are saying, so I’m going to try it!” “I want to buy special things and pick the right product for the store,” says Murphy, who is recently planning a trip to Europe to hand-pick his boot inventory.

With the store opening will bring job opportunity. Murphy will be looking to fill positions from Management to part-time stylists; a creative role that will help the store maintain a locally owned and operated environment that compliments the downtown Boulder feel. Job seekers are encouraged to apply at Steve Madden locations within Flatirons Mall or Cherry Creek Mall.

Stephen Tebo, owner of the building, said “There were many concerns about whether a large brand name could prosper within the unique and dynamic Boulder environment; however, given the locality of the owner, his accomplishments in Colorado, and his commitment to keeping an intimate and exclusive feel of the store, there was no question that Mike Murphy is the perfect tenant to occupy the space.  We look forward to many years of business together and wish Murphy and his company the best of luck.”
